Hmmm where do i begin (you need the whole story)
-got my 89 YJ in 2000
-left it stock for 6 years (mailman delivery style look -BORING)
-first bright idea installed 2.5 in. lifted springs (Note to self never do that ALONE again)
-YJ suspension felt like a tank (left it like that for 12 years - hand out neck braces for passengers)
-3 months ago got bit by the JEEP bug and decided i am going to get it back on the road
-next bright idea... i think i need to install lifted shackles that must be why it rides so rough RIGHT?
-shackles installed pretty easy but still rides like crap BUT NOW the new shackles are leaning to one side WTF
-google tells me to remove the traction bars BUT youtube tells me to remove only the rear traction bar and get a telescopic traction bar for the front (SWEET)
-removing the bars were pretty easy... drove around the block with no bars to get the suspension to align itself
-the YJ suspension felt smooth for the first time in 8 years (that's it i'm a genius)
-install the front telescopic bar BUT WAIT "what's this?" something called the pitman arm is now in the way WHAT!!!
-google tells me get a dropped pitman arm (now this gets good... i find out it is NOT easy to remove a 30yr old pitman arm)
-after much fowl language and 2 pitman arm removing tools (first one stripped) AND my life saver (cutting wheel) the pitman comes off
-install new pitman AND the telescopic traction bar fits like a glove BUT NOW a LEAK from the power steering (seems like all the pounding messed up the seals) AHHHH!!!
-seal kit $11.99 finding that ONE guy on youtube that put screws in the old seals to remove them PRICELESS! (Leak Gone)
-YJ running like a Cadillac BUT clanking sound when drving from complete stop (BAD motor mounts and trans mount)
    Today on my YJ
-patiently wait for mounts... removal and replacement no so bad for the motor mounts (DO THE DRIVER SIDE FIRST)
-transmission mount not so bad (FYI the skid plate is HEAVY)
-while under YJ i see a leak between the trans and the transfer case "What's this?" there shouldn't be any space...
-HOLY CRAP! all bolts loose on transfer case (locktight and 9/16 wrench)
-button everything up and take it for a spin WOW!!! no noises and running smooth
-BUT while underneath found lower radiator hose has BIG balloon on it
    -HOSES already ordered... stay tuned

    PICS COMING SOON...

Did my rear main oil seal this morning. Not all that bad really.

    Felpro gaskets for both.

Pueguot ba10/5 (puke goat) internal slave blew up. Did ax15 swap with external slave. Novak adapters kits for all, slave, master, fork, pilot bushing, throwout bearing, clutch etc.

Now just need to custom bend my straight shifters and put the boot back on.

Only thing holding timing chain on was the cover . Original cam sprocket with nylon teeth pressed over metal??

    Replaced with Melling set.

Was there noise or timing issues that clued you into the issue as metal chains last longer than belts?

After doing the trans, I could hear noises not heard before (trans can full of marbles). Had a tick at idle, rattle at high rpm right around 2-2.5k rpm. Stethoscope/rod led me to harmonic balancer timing cover area. Did balancer first, still noise, chain next. Amazing engine was still running given sprocket condition and chain deflection? That one throws me for a loop still.

I’m right around 147k original miles, I hear of most changing chains 100-150k. With belts at least the gears stay good and you only change the belt.

Side note when I was younger I did a V6 DOHC water pump and timing belt on a Toyota my dad gave me. Was a pita, jeep was easier.

I got my 94 yj a week ago and so far I’ve done front and rear brakes, all around shocks, new oil, took off the deteriorated soft top, pulled the seats out and gave it a good cleaning, new turn signal switch and I found out that my rear Dana 44 is from a 73 scout 2‍♂️. Still going to change it to a four link rear and 3 link front in the future when I find a. Enter front d44
