We've inherited a 92 yj project jeep. The frame is rusted to the point where I say it needs to be replaced. Suggestions if there are any on where I can find one? Seen a couple of course, but this is kind of new to me. Thanks if you can help.

Welcome! Post some of the good shots of the YJ (save-the-squares) as well as some of the rusty frame pics as some members could share their frame restoration/replacement experience tips.

Thanks for welcoming me. Here are a few pics of what we dug into so far. I was going to weld patches in place of the holes but by doing that I'm afraid of weakening the frame more at the points where I weld it.
I wasn't looking to spend a ton. We were just supposed to replace the suspension because the leafsprngs were bent at some point from being towed or who knows what. As I kept taking more off the more I noticed the rusty frame and holes. Like behind the steering gear box and towards the rear shackles.
    I live in the south west suburbs of Chicago.20180620_111133_1529511295004.jpg 20180620_111152_1529511294955.jpg 20180620_111236_1529511294910.jpg 20180620_111346_1529511294835.jpg

So here are some pics when we trailered it from one location to my house. It sat in this garage for I think nearly 8 to 10 years. My son and his friend got it fired up so we could drive it on the trailer. It leaked every fluid it had. Lol! But we got it up on with no problems. Then from there, we got in the garage and started to get it apart. Obviously all the joints, knuckles, bushings and hoses are going to be replaced. We already started getting some of the engine stuff done too. Replaced the water pump, alternator, starter, pulleys and a couple other things. Yes, we're putting money into it, but we weren't wanting to go crazy. But we all know how that goes. Still trying to keep it reasonable but safe.

Looks like it's going to be a good learning experience for sure.

I like the frame replacement idea. I'd feel safer with a solid frame under it. I already have all new leafs and linkage for it. I just needed to be talked into it I think. It's just a little more than I can afford just yet if it's nearly $3000.

Depending upon your driving plans/needs that YJ may need that replacement frame sooner than later. Sooner as DD and later as the big project. Patches are probably out of the equation.

I see a pretty regular stream of clean YJ frames here in SC they seem to hover $1200-$2000. There are some brand new frame options as well that are around $2600.

    Thanks

I can handle the $1200. That would be worth the trip.
