ha ha buy to fix - sorry not always the problem, we are doing wiring.

there is no comminication with scanners, first suspect HERE is no power at cavity 16 of the DLC,
YOU have no 12v at cavity 16 of DLC.
    >> FIRST CHECK FOR NO 12V AT DLC IS THE FUSE WE JUST CHECKED.

NOW WE WILL CHECK FOR AN OPEN (BROKEN) WIRE.

Next place to look is HEADLIGHT switch - and back to question WHY did you replace the switch?

Is there no one to help you with this?

No problem walking you thru this - but so far today was 10minutes of a professional checking.

We will remove headlight switch and check wiring on terminal #4 - this is where the fuse F17 circuit splits power to headlight switch and to the DLC.
When headlight switches fail sometimes the connections overheat and poor contacts -

I heading home.. let me know what you want to do, continue or seek some help working this-

I replaced the headlight swith because it broke...when i pulled the knob to put lights on...the knob came right out into my hand and there was a spark..had to call AAA to take mr home cus it was dark
Now heres the kicker i forgot to tell you
When i replaced the headlight switch first time..it wouldnt work right..only the parking lights would go on but not headlights..so i got another switch did same thing..im like huh? After.messing around with it i found out I was able to get the headlights on only if i pull knob 1/8 inch slowly after first click of PL..but headlights would go off if i pulled knob 2nd click..i ended up getting a 3rd new switch all did same thing..so about a week later, i go start my jeep to go to store. and BAM ..headlight switch suddenly started working properly..lol..im like this is so weired...but still the other problems stayed the same...
Again..the 3rd time i put a new headlight switch in, thats when i blew the headlight fuse..so i replaced that, now....Engine light on and here we r.
I so appreciate your help..my neighbor just gave me a code reader, but im so tired ill have to fiddle more tomarrow...
Remember this all started with me replacing a headlight switch..(3x). And forgetting to unplug battery

headlight switch is information the "history" technicians like to hear, and relevant as the DLC Cavity 16 gets its 12v at headlight switch.

Try the code reader* no harm. BUT until DLC (cavity 16) gets 12v it may NOT work.

Any chance you have wire alligator clips, a fused jumper wire? I had to ask realizing you do not do this for living BUT a plan B was gelling in my mind.

I will put a plan together - more later, Dr visit lunch and we will try again.

    * there are code readers and scanners 25$ vs 2000$

here's where we are - you have several issues, I think the no communication with scanners is first to repair as it will hopefully shed light (information) on other issues.

It seams the lack of 12v at DLC is the issue scanners are not communicating,
1)We could make a fused jumper wire and supply 12v to the wire at DLC, Read the codes and make a plan.
    >> Short cutting repair BUT an idea, MUST be fused we do not want proboems
    2) remove the headlight switch and check circuit for 12v the terminal 4 Tan Black wire.
    >> Seams you are a pro removing the switch.

A question for you, with headlight switch removed were you able to see and inspect the electrical connector?

the jeep is OK - esp if money is a issue right now. this model jeep of yours is very desirable the price will surprise you and is selling for well over the so called "book" value. And yours is NICE condition.

those alligator clips see attachment - you do have a straight pin - maybe 2 ?
do you have a spare fuse or 2 ? If not a small assortment of spares-

    Till later.

O..btw its funny cus back in 1999-2000, i went to college for pc repair and electronics..2 semesters on just electronics lol..i graduated valedictorian 4.0..but ended up in the end driving forklifts and tractor trailers lol...
I can fix anything mechanical as long as i have the right tools and guidance...2005 i restored a 1980 honda motorcycle..was so fun. I ride it all the time. but. I can't do wireing and cars with these computers i dont know a damn thing. So your the only person helping me and i so much appreciate it...im done with taking this jeep to garage's that only rip me off, tell me my jeep isnt worth the time..so im determined to fix it on my own for now on..unless something needs welding lol...
Ill be here now watching for your posts. Id rather give u my # so you can guid me when and if u have some time

The DLC #16 gets its power 12v at the headlight switch Terminal 4.
It -terminal 4- should have 2 wires Tan And Black (TN/BK) wires. One wires goes to the the fuse we checked the other goes to DLC#16.

You expressed feeling uncomfortable removing the headlight switch again.

    SO I was thinking plan B .
Using a pin to pierce into the tan and black wire at the DLC #16. Then clipping one end of jumper wire onto a good 12v source and connecting onto the pin at DLC this should get us 12v at the DLC. Use scanner and get BIG PIcture.

Before doing this - CARE as you have no fuse. Be sure you are able to remove all clips quickly if any smoke should appear. And watch the metal ends of the clips are not touching metal. Your computer skills should serve you well as the wiring is simple and the cautions second nature to you.

    TMI.
first diagram shows headlight switch and terminal 4 - note two wires one goes to fuse the other to DLC #16.

Second diagram shows DLC and notice where #16 gets its 12v - headlight switch.
