I just bought my 2012 Compass Latitude with 72,820 miles and found something not discovered on the test drive: in both drives modes (2wd/4wd), it has an annoying "jerk" in the rear axle when there is any demand placed on the vehicle.

By this, I mean there is noticeable jerking as if the rear transmission is jerking around gears to find the right one.

Is this normal or do I need to get it into the shop??

I'd suggest getting the 11+ yr Compass inspected. IIRC the Compass is primarily FWD and sends power to the rear when the AWD system is activated. Either the rear axle needs service or worn components or the electronics could be involved
