2003 Jeep Rubicon no speedometer, check engine code p1692

I am having the same issue with my 2003 TJ Rubicon. P1692 and no Speedometer working. I just call superchip today and we put everything back to stock. I still have the check engine light and the code.

 

I'm still trying to fix the problem tried new computer and new instrument cluster. I really don't want to put in a after market instrument cluster but so for that is the only fix I have found. Keep me posted.

 

I have an 04 Rubicon doing the same thing. Had thr battery disconnected for most of the day, when hooked back up engine light was on, no speedo , amd the p1692 code. I also had the superchips f5 flashpack tuner in at the time. Any advise is much appreciated.

 

Still trouble shooting if I fix it I will post. Please do the same.

 

Bought a JK new in '16 knowing Jeeps reputation but your ongoing problem is troubling to hear thats its still going on. Have a soft spot for TJs and XJs but read plenty to avoid certain years. Hope a solution develops for your Jeep.

 

That's How I Found This Forum Also, I got an 02 Wrangler sport without a working speedometer but my code is PO500 I believe, which is speed control sensor. I replaced sensor, Engine light is off but still no speedometer or cruise!

 

Just wanted to add some closure to this thread. I was able to get the issue fixed by taking it to a mechanic that is a former Chrystler lead mechanic and he had the equipment to reset whatever needed it. Everything was working great until I left the key on over night draining the battery resulting in the same issue/code lol, at least this time I know how to get it fixed

 

Thanks Tigman, You are lucky to get it fixed so easily (yea I know). I have friends to whom this happened to as well, they were able to find a Shop local to them in northern California that told them that with the Jeep sourced computers no longer available, they are available from the original maker for $1500. They did the same as I did and got rid of the TJ and bought a 2016 JK Unlimited Rubi. They like me are very happy with the newer Jeep, finding the comfort and extra space well worth the effort.

 

I to own a 2003 rubicon with the same issue. I live near Greensboro NC and only 1 dealer with in 500 miles has that software your talking about. I spoke with that dealer and they said they could do the job but if they mess up my pcm that they wouldn’t be responsible that I would have to buy another pcm. That’s ah scary thought it looks like my only option. If that fixes my problem then I guess we have to live with the idea that the Speedo is going to be off due to oversized tire and not retune it huh? I own a 21 gladiator rubicon as well with big lift and big tires and a tuner!!! Will this happen to it as well? Ya know? In the muscle car and diesel would we can trick the computer in thinking that we have the emission stuff still there. Wondering why we can’t do the same for my 03 rubicon. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I’m hoping some fresh eyes on it will result in more assistance. To refresh everyone I had my battery unhooked for about 3 days doing a repair. Upon hooking the battery back up had the P1692 code and dead speedo. After months of local and internet research I found someone with the equipment to reprogram the cluster and fix the issue, cost $200. Since then I accidentally left the key on overnight draining the battery and resurrecting the p1692, back to the mechanic for the $200 fix. Recently had to replace the battery, you guessed it, code shows up and another $200 lol! My question, is there a backup battery that needs to be replaced, surely having the battery unhooked for an hour shouldn’t result in a dead speedometer that requires $200 to get fixed, there has to be something in place to carry the cluster memory for a reasonable amount of time.
