6 inch body lift?. IM not very familiar with body lifts. I think it would be less work and cheaper to do a suspension lift.
Any one with more experience with body lifts please chime in. Is there certain things Drd88 should be looking for? Steering column, shock, or other extensions he should look for to determine what lift is installed.

Edit..I hit the wrong button again. Lol. But as far as shocks. Depending on your lift. Basically the only thing other than personal preference. Street with moderate offroarding. To moderate to heavy offroading. Your going to look at travel distance of the shocks also. Most shocks are limited to your lift. 2 to 4...4 to 6...etc.

More details are needed to know what direction to point you in into getting a softer ride. How much suspension lift and body lift? 3 and 3? Does your axle sit on top of the springs or do the springs sit on the axle?

Cj springs are horrible riding especially if you have the HD 5,6,or even 7 leaf packs. The more leafs the worse the ride. First You need to switch to YJ springs. The rear will bolt right in. The front you will need to order new YJ hangers and shackles. This is where you need to know what lift you have and orientation of the axle and springs. If it were my CJ5, I would get OME 2.5 inch lift springs fronts (front springs are 4 leaf packs) for both the front and rear and 5 inch YJ shackles for both the front and rear. This will give you a total of 3.5 inch suspension lift. rocky-road.com sells all of this at a reasonable price. I believe summitracing.com does too.

They had to run 7 pack springs to prevent the axle wrap that happens with spring over lifts, But their are ways around this. In the front you want a Factory OEM YJ 5 leaf spring pack. They are also known as light-medium duty rear springs. I try to confirm leaf count before purchasing. New ones from Crown are usually around 100 each. You can usually find a whole set of used YJ springs for $100 or less, but they may be well used and sprung. For the rear you will need to build your own custom spring pack out of a 5leaf and a 4leaf YJ springs. You will have a total of 7 leafs in the back, but it will still ride much softer than what you have now. I used a set of used fronts (4leaf) and new rears (5leaf) to make my rear pack for my CJ-7. I would keep the factory hanger and shackle in the rear. and you will need to order YJ Hangers and 5in YJ shackle in the front. When ordering shackles you need to confirm the length from center of bolt to center of bolt. Also a CJ's rear shackle is the same width as a YJs front and rear shackles. If you watch ebay and Craigslist most of this stuff can be purchased used for pennys on the dollar. Here is the article on making your custom spring pack.

Very interesting OFFGRID. I'll probably never need to know that. But I read it anyway. Didn't realize you can do that with leaf springs. Very cool. Thanks for posting link.
