    I am rebuilding a 1974 cj5, I need sheet metal, most sites list from 1976 forward. Are there any major differences?

    Welcome to the site! I thought I saw quadratec sold parts for old jeeps. Have you checked them out?

    I did look a Quadratek, they show 76 and newer for most parts, wanted to know what was different in 74 with body.

    I found this info on another site:

    1. Windshield Frame:
    a. 1976 and later taper towards the top and lean back toward the driver more.
    b. The 1974 has an obvious windsield wiper motor blister on the windshield frame.
    c. This has a MAJOR effect on what tops you can use.
    2. Dash:
    a. 1975 and earlier dashes very a lot between years--no set standard
    b. 1976 and later dashes have everything in a nice stack on the dash--easier to find stuff
    c. Better standardized wiring after 1976.
    3. Drivetrain:
    a. 1975 and earlier use some variant of the Dana 44 for the rear axle
    b. 1976 and later use a AMC 20 rearend.
    c. More engine/tranny/t-case options after 1976
    4. Seats:
    a. 1975 and earlier there is a tool box under the passenger seat.
    b. The 1976 and later use a different seat bracket.

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    I would like to add that starting in 1972 they added 4 inches to the front end in order to make room for the length of the 258 I6. This is evident in the lack of skirt behind the front tire in pre-1972 front fenders. This should not effect you unless you are buying fenders.

    Thanks for the information! I am hoping that even though there are minor differences, I can make 76 outer sheet metal fit. I didn't know about the windshield differences. Thanks!
