Lately jeep has been acting weird (the 98 grand cherokee). Sometimes when I'm driving it starts spitting n sputtering kinda bucking n my rpm needle just bounces like crazy! Sometimes she stalls out completely but always starts back up n gets me home. Never thrown the check engine light till now tho. Tried changing out the computer and that worked for a bit. It did leave me stranded once after I took it to an automated car wash that sprays the under carriage... computer change on side of road n she started back up! Fun,fun.it just seems to be getting worse n now it revs like I'm stomping on it too in the middle of all the chaos. Iz not tho. Of course can't find the code reader in the garage. Any ideas guys?...was just trying to take my dog swimming now he's all sad!! :(

Most times when you get a crazy RPM surge like that, its due to in metered air getting around the throttle body. Check vacuum lines, and intake connections.

What Chris said. When I had my 2000 XJ, a vacuum line would blow off due to old age. And my RPMs would jump all over the place until I plugged it back in. Start there. Good chance it may be the issue.

See what the code is and go from there... if I had to make an educated guess I would say the crankshaft sensor is on its way out. Super common
