4-6" shocks too much for my 2013 JKU?

I have a 2013 JKU with a 3" lift. I'm looking at replacing the factory shocks. Would 4-6" shocks be too much for my jeep?

That depends, but in general Yes it is too much. Look roughly for a 2-4in lift shock. Does your lift have shock spacers in it or did it come with new shocks with the lift? What shocks are you planning on purchasing? Despite what other people may say, I like ProComp 3000s, they ride well and the price is right, but if I chose another shock it would be the fox 2.0. Unless your running a Baja 1000 race I wouldn't waste your money on the reservoir shock. The following shocks come in stock height, 1.5-3.5in lift, and 4-6in lift.

Front shocks by Fox: http://www.ridefox.com/product.php?m=truck&t=shocks&p=1&make=Jeep&model=Wrangler JK&year=2016-2010&position=Front&ref=willitfit#fitguide

Rear shocks by fox: http://www.ridefox.com/product.php?m=truck&t=shocks&p=1&make=Jeep&model=Wrangler JK&year=2016-2010&position=Rear&ref=filter

My buddy has 40s on a custom 2.5in lift. He has some crazy drop in his flex so he went with the long shocks you'd use on a 6in lift, but he had to install bumpstops to keep the tires out of the fenders, and keep from bottoming out the shocks, and he was able to use the full length of the shock.

I didn't get new shocks with the lift and I'm not sure about spacers. I was looking at Rough Country Shocks. Friend of mine had the 4-6" Rough Country Shocks with 1000 miles for $120. Other than that, I know nothing about shocks

I was once told that Monroe makes most of the aftermarket shocks for example ProComp, Superlift, Skyjacker, Rancho etc., so it probably doesn't matter what brand, since they are most likely all made by Monroe shocks.

If you run 4-6 in on your jeep then you run a stong chance of punching out your seals in the shocks because they are too long and won't give you enough uptravel.

Yes, If you are going to go with RC that is what I would run.

Just a thought. Do you need new shocks? Does your jeep ride fine? These days shocks can last you 200,000 miles or more. I have 120,000 miles on my 2010 Chevy Pickup and I still have the factory shocks and it still rides great.

Very interesting OFFGRID. Had no idea Monroe could be manufacturing so many brands of shocks. But, its not unheard of and of coarse it is a common practice with more than we know of name brand products. I know of several off the top of my head in other industries.

Anyway. Back to shocks. Just my 2 cents. I installed Skyjacker in my XJ just because I liked the look of the shock. And loved them. So I recently installed them in my JK. I like the ride. And yes....i purchased them with the travel based on my lift.

Don't ask a female Jeeper. But some times bigger is not always better. Lol

By the way reverie. Very sweet looking JKU. A new bumper look would really set that Jeep apart. If you might be looking for a cheap easy fix. I have Verticaly Driven "shorty end caps". They look stock. But shorter.
