Looking at a 2000 Wrangler Sahara

OK I'm looking to get a Jeep and the guy wants $5000 for a 2000 Sahara 6cyl 5 Speed. Body isn't great but 2 small spots on frame and one on driver front fender. It has 170k on Jeep and 70k on new motor. Interior is decent as well and ac works but needs a charge (cool not cold) has stock tires on steelies to replace shot tires. I plan on 32s anyway, and a 2.5 lift. He's willing to plate the frame. I would normally pass on it but he's trading it and cash for my quad that isn't selling fast. I will drive it quite a bit around the area and wheel with it but have a daily driver. Take a look at pics and give me your honest opinion as I'm brand new to Jeeps but not wheeling. Thanks guys!

 

Based off the pics the Jeep body looks good for 17 year old. Check out the extent of frame rust. Frames can be repaired within reason and decent ones with some TLC can be a good buy.

 

That's the exact year trim and color scheme as the tj my brother @UrbanCowboy and I shared growing up.

The rust up front on frame is maybe a 2" spot only through a little, the back by the shackle mount is slightly worse on bottom rail. He will repair and re-undercoat it. I appreciate the responses. Think price is fair?

 

Rusting from within the frame is challenging but the aftermarket sells frame sections that are welded on to make a permanent repair. If your pal is good at welding or knows what he or she is doing then it may work out well. I'm on the road so I can't comment on the price but the body looks good to me.

 

Ok got offered a 1990 restored and cash 4" and 35s with 4.88 gears all done professionally frame and body. Only a 4cyl but great excuse for a small 8 transplant down the road. Seeing Sunday 150k.

 

Hard to tell, but It looks like there has been some rust repair on the frame. Not bad and the Job looks decent. If I had to guess there is some rust hidden behind the Diamond plate, but maybe not because YJ bodies were galvanized at the factory before painting. Has a home made Tcase drop. Probably means it still has the Slip yoke in it. I would replace that with an ultra short SYE, install a 6* wedge on the rear axle install a rear Double cardan driveshaft from Tom Woods shafts, and remove the Tcase drop. I don't like Tcase drops, because they tilt the engine back quite a bit which they are already tilted back from the factory. This makes the front cylinders run lean on oil and (fuel on the carberated and TBIs). All in all a nice looking Jeep and in my opinion YJs are the best bang for the buck.
