4in lift with 35's

New to all this...
I'm wanting to put a 4inch lift on my 94 Cherokee and run 35's... I was told I may have to trim a little tho (fenders) and I'm not really wanting to. The question is has anyone put a 4in lift with 35's and not had to trim? Or will I have to go with 33's/ or end up trimming...
Any recommendations?
I want to trail ride, rock crawl and mud... (Not going way to over extreme tho)

 

^With 35s you will also need to regear to maintain acceptable performance. That will add $$$$ to the cost (typically 4 figures). It's better to get the lift and some armor (bumpers, skids, sliders) and start wheeling. Once you begin seeing limitations (e.g. not able to roll over certain sized rocks), upgrade accordingly. You may want to add lockers when you regear, further adding $$$$ to the cost, etc.

 

Well I'll for sure get the lift, but still not sure what size tire I'm gonna get because I just think my 31's will look a little off with it, but really idk yet. Oh and I'm definitely getting some lockers! Regearing I'll have to look into a little bit more, still new to that. Thanks a bunch for the info!

 

I've heard that to fit 35s comfortably that you need a 5.5in lift. There are several lifts out there up to 9.5ins. BDS, Rubicon, etc. As far as whether or not 35s will run well on the stock gearing that depends. If it were me I'd run 4.56 for good offroad use, but if you came with 3.73 or 4.10 gears you would probably do okay. Some Cherokees came with as high as 3.07s (Not good). If your jeep has a Factory tow package on it, it likely has 4.10 gears and a Dana 44 rear end.

I honestly am not sure what gears are on it at the moment, I need to get back under it and find that out. Looks like I've got a Dana 35 rear end. I've not heard the best things about Dana 35 but mine seems to do good for what I've done so far. I definitely need to do some more research on all the things I need to know lol. There might be a sticker or metal label on the pumpkin. Worst comes to worst you can always measure the axle ratio directly: block the front wheels, jack up the rear axle, put the 4WD lever in N, and see how many turns of the driveshaft it takes to turn the wheel one revolution.

 

So how many turns I get out of that will tell what gears?

 

If you get 3.7 turns of the driveshaft for one wheel revolution, you have 3.7 gears. If you get 4.1 turns of the driveshaft, you have 4.1 gears, etc. Use a sharpie or paint marker to mark your starting point, so you can count precisely.

Yeah they don't look bad, I was just wanting to beef it up a little bit more but I'm thinking for what all I'm going to do I'll end up with getting 33's.

 

Honestly I would stick with the 33's on the Cherokee.... I bet you will have to get extreme with your lift or have to take out some rub areas otherwise..nothing wrong with a little less rubber to get the job done and will still look great!!

 

Lol yeah it's pretty solid how it is at the moment so I think I'll run what I've got for a bit and then go a lot bigger. I don't see spending all that extra money for 1in right now. Later on I'm thinking of just goin extreme haha.
