The fuel gauge on my 1987 Jeep XJ was not working when I purchased my XJ. I did an electrical test with my multimeter according to a video on YT (Link below) the test was run from the connection to the fuel pump sending unit as in the video through the jeep and I needed to see 6.50 on the meter, I did see 6.50 telling me that wiring and gauge are good.

The fuel gauge would not move, it stayed, E, so I got a new pump and sending unit when I had the garage install it, this is what I have now and do not understand what is going on?

In this first image you can see my fuel gauge without the pump/sending unit plugged in and the second is with it plugged in

Doing some searching I found that the harness for the new pump/sending unit was assembled wrong. The Grey wire in the harness is going to the black wire in the body harness (red arrows) and the black wire in the harness is going to the grey wire in the body harness (green arrows)

This was causing the pump to run all the time and I believed the gauge to do what you see in the image. I purchased a set of tools for taking apart connectors. It arrived from Amazon I went out and swapped the wires on the harness for the pump/sending unit. As you can see the black is now going to black and grey is now going to grey it was easy once I found the right size tool to remove the pin took less than two minutes.

Now comes the issues I am having now first the gauge is still reading the same when the harness is plugged in and the pump is not working at all. Below is a sort of wiring diagram sent to me by the manufacturer of the pump/sending unit.

My first thought was that the fuse or relay is damaged but if that is so there would no power and the gauge would not be doing what it is. I am hoping with this information and these images someone can see something I am not?

    Thanks
