    Hello all,

Looking to pick up a Jeep again and was wondering what you all would lean towards? My first Jeep was a new ‘85 CJ7 that I had a blast with so naturally I’m biased towards them. Of course they are 40 years old now. I have looked up the basic differences in the cj, yj, tj etc. but would like your input on what you would go with. Would be a play vehicle for cruising and maybe a little off-road. Would like to find something around $12,000 or less. Thanks for your thoughts.

As much as I’d like to add an older classic Jeep to the fleet the 30-40 yr age would be a factor to consider for my time, space and money to make it a reliable driver that I can depend on. Finding a relatively stock low mileage with little to no rust would be my goal for any of your choices. The YJ could be the best value of the bunch because of the square lights (doesn’t bother me). I’d rock a CJ/YJ/TJ anytime.

I think I would be looking for a TJ. Better suspension and still the great 4.0 engine. I'm still very partial to the early CJ's but they are a lot of work to get them close to modern standards. However, that can be accomplished.

I really like my 98 Tj still very dependable
130k 4.0 wouldn’t be afraid to take off and go anywhere. CJ’s and TJ’s are my favorites. 4.0s are bullet proof!!

if you buy a XJ or Tj make sure you get a 4.0.
