Taking the Jeep back to York Jeep to have it checked after their $640 repair. Whatever is going on, it is intermittent. It ran fine after their repair and all new vacuum hoses. I did not drive it very long, but then I drove Indy to deliver a desk, it began to jerk on acceleration and the exhaust was nothing but raw fuel. It about choked me to death before I got back from Indy. There was a wreck on I 65 and I spent 45 minutes on the "on ramp" waiting, Very slow movement. The Jeep wanted to surge once in a while and I had to keep my foot on the brake to keep from hitting the car in front of me. When I was home again, I checked the hoses. They looked fine. I removed the air cleaner cover and it appeared that the filter was sagging. I replaced it so it was sealed. The Jeep ran fine for a while. It was mere coincidence I guess. The next time I drove the Jeep, it started acting up again, the same symptoms. I called York and made an appointment for today. It will likely run well on the way to Brazil, with my luck, and the symptoms will not show up when they check it again.
It must be some sensor acting up. I can get the Jeep up the 60 if I barely accelerate. The trans. is fine

I am surprised that with all the experts here that no one has a clue regarding my problem. The dealer told me it was bad compression and suggested I spend $4000 for a good used engine. It is not a compression issue! I drove the Jeep 35 miles yesterday with no issues. Then it started running badly again. What about a coil or two breaking down after driving a while?

None. It will drive fine for 20 or so miles when I start out. Temp reads normal after 10 minutes. It is inevitable that the problem will start soon after 20+ miles. It will run fine next time I drive it after being parked all night. Something is breaking down after that 20+ miles. All new coils by Echlin were installed a few months ago and new plugs at the same time. If a Jeep dealer could not fine the real problem, it must be something pretty unusual.

No codes, no info on $640 dealer repair, jerking/raw fuel, dealer states compression issue....go back to the dealer to confirm that diagnosis. Hit the local auto parts store who could scan to confirm any codes past /present or whenever the symptoms present itself.
