D flashing on gear shift

    2018 jeep cherokee
    2018 jeep cherokee. when i start to slow down at at stop. the car goes into neutral cant move, and drive ("D") on the gear shifter starts flashing. i have to turn the car off. then hit the start button a few times then it turns on. no dashboard indicators. my dealer wants $268 for a diagnostic. i was wondering if anyone had this happen to them?

    Aftermarket bumper with overrider. Nothing mechanical.
    Hello all. Bought my 2024 Wrangler 4xe “high altitude edition” about a month ago from Castle Jeep yada yada in Naperville IL. I have fewer than 800 miles on it! Like others in this thread and related threads, over the past days I’ve had the sudden-stop-flashing-D problem. That happened twice yesterday twice within 10 minutes, and once again today. I had to put it in P, wait a couple of seconds, and put it in D again.

    I spoke to the service department at Castle. The tech said he “had never heard about it.” As we were speaking I pulled up this site and asked him to look at it. Evidently this problem has happened to many types of Jeeps over a number of years.

    The tech gave me an appointment for December 30 (!!) - today is the 19th. I said that if it happens once more before then I will drive the Jeep over and leave it with him because it won’t be safe to drive.

    WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS MALFUNCTION?
