CJ7 Transfer Case Pan / Skid Plate

I recently bought a 1978 CJ7 with a swapped out V8. Once I got it, I was having the shocks replaced with off road version for a lifted jeep and a steering dampener installed.

The mechanic noted that the Transfer Case Pan/Skid plate was poorly fitting, overlapping the frame on the driver side, and was welded rather than bolted in place.

I have been searching google and cannot find the appropriate fix for this. Is there anyone on out there with the knowledge and expertise who can point me in the proper direction?

Also, the mechanic noted that the track bar on the front end was welded in place and not adjustable which is causing the front axle to be shifted toward the passenger side. I have searched for an adjustable kit on this, there appears not to be one.

You might wanna discuss this with your mechanic.....

But 78 CJ's do not have any Track Bars installed from the factory. If it's a previous owner hack job. I'd cut it off.
As far as the skid plate. Another owner hack job.

It sounds like you're just starting to uncover your CJ7's dark past... Lots of CJ's have them. If you're not already half fabricator/half mechanic you may be on the road to being one.

 

Yep. May as well just ante up the $ and buy a decent welder and some metal working equipment if you don't already have them.
