Be careful changing a shift knob

    I wanted to refresh the 35 yo shift knob with new standard one from Crown.
    The lock nut only loosened a half turn. The knob broke away from the I sert.

    I cut away handle with small cutting wheel

    I applied vice grip to twist insert, no luck. Heat was applied.
    One umph and OUCH! Broke shift lever.

    Luckily there was enough thread for the 3 inch extension I planned to add.

    Added Rock Knob Shift lift. Now Crown knob is larger, so a few wraps of electric tape filled the gap and gives a tight fit to shift knob.

    I'm waiting for Transfer knob to arrive, that one screws off easily!

    Nice bounce back from disaster. I would have considered some red lock-tite to ensure the connection on the remaining threads.
