New member looking to learn more about Jeeps

    2 inch lift kit, 32 inch tires
    Hello everyone. Recently purchased a 94 YJ 4cyl and want to learn more about them. The lift kit needs to be replace the bushings are bad, is that hard to do or should I get a mechanic to do that?

    What makes you think the bushings are bad? You don't need to replace the whole lift kit, just the bushings if they are bad. You'll need 2 sets of these (front and rear) http://www.morris4x4center.com/leaf-spring-bushing-set-black-22107g.html . You need a Jack to lower and raise the axle into place, 6 ton jacks (3 ton are not tall enough) to hold the Jeep in up while you remove the axle, and a basic mechanic tool set and a torque wrench. Grease to help the bushings slip in easier (spit will work too). A cheap electric impact from Harbor Freight with impact socket set would be helpful, but not necessary. TORQUE EVERYTHING DOWN TO SPECIFICATION FOR A SMOOTH EVEN RIDE !!!!!!!

    Peter, the lift kit bushings on the driver side and the one on the front are cracked pretty bad, and I think that is what is making the Jeep shake when I am going over 60 mph. I got it inspected and everything else looks good, so the only thing I thought could make it shake is those bushings not doing their job. Thanks a million for the info.

    The bushings are cheap enough that it wouldn't break the bank, and it is probably a good idea to change them and have your tires balanced also, but I'm leaning torwards ball joints and tie rod ends, and shocks as well as steering stabilizer. Jack your front end up. Grab the tire and see if you can turn it side to side. It should take a lot of force to turn them. If you can turn them easily with little effort your ball joints are probably bad. I recently ordered ball joints, tie rods ends for $100 at US auto parts on line for my 94 YJ that I'm restoring.     Cheap stuff first. Tires balanced, bushings, shocks, and steering stabilizer (dampener).
