So I'm cleaning under the cowl panel to eliminate water in the passenger footwell and noticed that there is some thick foam rubber in the area of the heater air intake. Does anyone know the purpose for it. I'm gonna remove it in order to clean up and repaint under the cowl panel. I've seen numerous video's with various configurations and some with none at all. Just doesn't make any sense to me the heater air intake is completely open on 3 sides.

Probably just a piece of insulation. In the newer Wranglers. There's numerous pieces used as insulation againist motor heat.
