83 CJ7 won't run

Fired it up one day, started as usual. Few minutes later reached in and kicked it down. It dies. Will not re-start. Starting fluid, nothing.

Brought into my shop and have now replaced: cap, rotor, coil, condenser, plugs, ignition pulse generator, ignition control unit and cleaned the grounds well.
I can get it to fire now and will start but only runs a little and very poorly. It will only fire as I release the key. It never did this before.
Yes, it is getting fuel.

Thoughts?

fuel filter??? had that similar and was dirty filter from pick up sock that rotted in gas tank

Have not done that, will give that a go, thanks.
Initially it was not getting any fire. Now it will run but not enough to drive so fuel is my next event!
