I may be 'inheriting' my daughter's 86 CJ 7. They have owned it for several years and need to downsize their auto fleet. Looks decent from 20 feet but it is tired. Needs all new body mounts, some serious body and paint work, suspension work etc. Does anyone have a shop in the Boston area (or Massachusetts area) that they can recommend that they have used for a fairly extensive restoration job?

Not sure of your ability or capability but labor expenses could become a deterrent to the project. Imo plan for smaller restoration areas to be diy while reserving major repairs for the pro. Regardless keep us up to date on the progress as it should be a good build to follow.

Thanks for the quick response. On the plus side I have been a 'shade tree mechanic' my whole life. Have owned a number of British sports cars since I was 22 and did almost all the work (except body work and paint) on all of them. On the negative side I am retired and 75 years old but a young 75 (still play hockey twice a week). My thoughts are this would be a fun project for me now that I am retired. Ideally, I can line up a good restoration shop where I can coordinate our timings on what I can do (or not do) and what they will do. Could be a pipe dream. Maybe sell it when done of give it to one of the grandkids.
