So I got my self a 2012 Jeep JK Wrangler, Auto,2-door hard top color Red. 50000 miles.

it has the stock rims and tires P255/75R17. I planned to put Cooper AT3 on it. Need advice. would like to go a a little wider with at least the same height. Will be using stock rims.

    Thanks Tom C.

Yes. But you might have rubbing issues.

I agree with @JKBob 25 - I've been around this just now with my 2011 which is similar to yours, except it has a soft top only. 255/17/75 are basically 32" tires, skinny and high. To go wider you'll need after market wheels with an appropriate back spacing or you'll need to use wheel spacers on your stock wheels. In terms of height, you don't gain much for that trouble. For myself, I've decided to stick with the 255s and get a good luggy tire. There are a few good choices out there. If you want your Jeep taller, you could pick up some Rubicon, or Sahara take off springs and get about 1 1/2" - 2" that way depending on the spring spec. It's a very inexpensive lift option that stays with OEM parts.
    Btw, nice clean Jeep!

In general the stock non-lifted JK can use 32” tall tires. I’m running OEM 265/70R17 on stock wheels with 6.25” back spacing. For a more aggressive look I added 1.5” wheel spacers until I pick up another set a wheels with much less back spacing. When choosing wheel spacers use quality brands and install correctly for best results.

I read somewhere that a back space of 4.5” works for Jeep’s.

That's the ideal backspacing most jeepers desire on the JK. For now 6.25-1.5=4.75
