    Hello,

I have a 2004 wj, 4.0, 4 wheel, 158,000mi. Always dependable any weather, any time.

The other day I was driving about 45mph and a deer ran in front of me and I hit the brakes hard. No impact but the engine died and won't start back.

Now I say won't start..it rolls over fine but won't fire. It will fire when I prime it and sounds fine until it burns that gas then dies again.

I can hear the fuel pump buzzing fine..few seconds when key is in the on position and while cranking.

I do most of my own mechanics but I'm puzzled on this one.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Thanks in advance...

I am going to take a guess here. I think the sudden deceleration could have dislodged some crud in the fuel tank. Replace your fuel filter. A second possibly is that something moved when you hit the brakes and pinched the fuel line. Follow it from the tank to the engine. Third guess - something came off by the fuel rail. Be sure all wires are connected.

Confirm you have proper fuel flow, pressure and as mentioned fuel filter

its your throttle plate sticking. the fact when you press the gas while cranking it starts. that plate should never be completely closed with the engine on or during starting. no air will get into the engine. no air no go. lol. The idle air control valve on the throttle body has a tendency of causing the same symptom. get your throttle body cleaned ( not very difficult) and should fix the problem. if it were electrical you would have trouble driving.

my opinion based on what you said.

oh and sticking open will also do this. needs to be precisely controled for proper air metering.

check fuel pressure use a gauge post back the readings.
