Just purchased a 79 CJ7 about 3 weeks ago and everything was running great. Then a couple days ago it would not start. It has a Howell EFI upgrade and when I turn the key to the start position the check engine light does not come on like normal so it appears that it’s not getting power to the control. However when I attempt to start it first thing in the morning the light comes on and it starts perfectly then runs for server WL minutes before dying. At that point the check engine light will not come on again when the key is in the run position. Would love some advice. I have checked the fuses and relay but I’m a little puzzled

I have had the Howell system in my CJ since '07. I would suggest looking at the battery connections to start with. The cel should come on when you you the ignition to the on position and go out when it starts. If it stays on after it starts, you have a check engine code stored in the computer. You could get some help by printing out some items from this page:https://howellefi.com/support/manuals/.

As I look over your first post, I was wondering if your engine is stalling out due to flooding? Pull a spark plug and look for black soot on the plug which would indicate as such.
