i have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0l. Last week my Jeep lost power driving down the road first the engine cut out then the power steering then the headlights. I had a bad battery which lead to a bad alternator. I replaced both the battery and the alternator yesterday and it was running great then this morning driving back from the store and it loses power again in the same order as the last time, engine, power steering then headlights. Someone help not sure what the problem is now.

I suspect that the CEL check engine light is not working- correct?
It should come at every start @2seconds then go out - let me know.

    Lets do some BASICS...
check for codes - scanner or key on off check for codes...

quick and easy test, engine OFF what is the voltage at battery?
try to start if it starts recheck voltage at battery WE want more volts than when we checked eng off .

NO start, suggest a recharge, or swap in a known good battery, with battery charging what is the voltage at the wiring at the ALT, larger wire RED should be same as battery voltage - see attachment.

1- let us know about CEL on or off, and if works at every start.
    2) check battery voltage eng off.
    3) check battery voltage eng on post results...
    4) Using diagram ck fuses and RED wire at back of alt for 12v

Welcome! Fill in some of the details that @Awrench requested. Does the Jeep start with a jump? Did the headlights start to dim before the engine stalls?

It has a new battery and after I towed it home again and I let it sit for a couple of hours it started right back up. It stalled once then I started it back up and let it idle for a good 20 min and it never stalled again. I’m hesitant to drive on the road again.

Sounds like you've broken connection in your computer where it connects it wears down over time it can break the little pins so every once while it stalls out I have the same thing going on with my 99

Crankshaft sensor that’s exactly what happened to mine after cool down it will start then stall when you drive for a little bit until it finally gives out all together

With a vehicle that old, and with those symptoms, it sounds like either the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor. Those are weak points in the ignition system and will not usually send out a code.
