i picked up a used hardtop for my YJ and am going to paint it. I’ve got it stripped down, but not sure how to remove the side glass. It looks like it’s a combo seal/sealant and not just a seal. Does anyone have any experience in removing the side glass on a YJ?
Thanks in advance for and help.

Welcome to the site! I think its attached with an adhesive. You might want to contact a glass company and see what they recommend, or just take extra time to mask it off.

Welcome! I second Chris's comment as removing glass to paint would not be my choice. I'm sure it's glued on pretty well. What's the plan for the hardtop? Solid panel in place of the glass? Scratches? Get it tinted.

The glass is in great shape I was just wanting to remove it for ease of painting. The fact that it is glued in, I’m just going to mask it. I talked to an auto glass place today and they want $150 to reinstall and said it will be a pain to remove. Masking tape it is.

Well, after doing a little more research, I found that the glass is glued in but the rubber seal isn't really a seal as much as its a rubber trim piece. I grabbed it and pulled on it and it came out from around the window. The rubber is kind of like a "T" molding. I can now tape off the glass and paint the entire top and then replace the rubber with new trim. I'll post pics when I'm done.

It laid down a nice even light texture. I followed that up with SEM Trim Black paint with a medium reducer at a 1:1 ratio. I’m very happy with the way it turned out. Below is a pic along with a close up to show the texture.
Now to get all the rubbers replaced and the rear hatch glass put back on. Then it’s onto the doors. I’ll be painting them blue to match the Jeep.

Nice PRO job on refinishing the hard top. I'm finding minor defects on my newer hardtop that I have to ignore or use a quick dash of paint on scrapes or chips.

Finally finished the doors and got everything put back together. The color isn’t an exact match, but I didn’t want to mess with blending and so I went with it. I don’t think anyone will notice unless they look close. I’m also a believer in the vinyl paint dye. A local upholstery shop told me about it and my local auto paint store had nothing but great things to say about it. I figure if it holds up on seats, it should hold up on door panels. I guess time will tell. All in all I’m very happy with my new to me hardtop and doors.
