Down the road, I plan on completely rewiring my 85 cj7 and am needing advice on which kit to purchase, I want to replace every wire, retain my factory gauges and switches. My CJ has a Weber carb and GM style HEI, so no computer or icm to worry about. I've been looking at painless kit #10150. Anyone use this kit?

Haven’t used a Painless setup, but their reputation is quite good, especially for OEM-replacement kits. If you don’t mind a little more work, one of the Bare Bonz setups from Ron Francis Wiring is well worth a look. I need to look and see if they make OEM clones. RF stuff is of excellent quality. I helped build a car that went to SEMA in 2018 that was sponsored by Ron Francis Wiring and sat in their booth. Good times!

Just had the chance to peruse both the Painless and Ron Francis sites. Looks like the Painless kit is much more custom-tailored to the CJ than the RF kit. Painless seems to waterproof their kits better too. Just FYI... there’s a $300 difference in price, Painless being around $830 where the RF kits are $500ish. From their website info alone I would pony up the extra cash for a Painless, but either one is leaps and bounds over old CJ wiring. Now I gotta add one of these kits to my list!!

I think you're right on, the extra $$ for the Painless kit will be worth it, as I don't have much wiring experience, so I doubt if it's truly going to be "painless" for me.
