Installed a new starter, now there's a gap

Thanks to the help I got a few weeks ago, I found the correct starter and got it installed.

Now, though, there is a small gap. I'm not sure if this is an issue or will cause problems.

Thoughts?

 

Any issues starting the TJ with the new starter? Perhaps some high-temp RTV might suffice to keep dirt and water out of the large gap. Its not generally a water proof starter mount but neither is it typical to have a large open gap either. If you purchased the starter locally, see if they have a replacement starter with a mounting base that better matches the old starter.

 

This was the only starter I found locally. It started right up.

I think I also have an issue with the clutch safety switch, which I'm going to attempt to bypass.

Maybe Peratex to seal it?

 

Well if it's starting the jeep well I'd keep the starter. It gets hot in the motor-to-starter area so make sure whatever you use can handle the temps. Perhaps make a small metal trim plate to cover the gap and use the closest starter bolt to hold the plate.
