    Hey All,

I own an 86 CJ-7 and just purchased a hard top (was told it was from a 95 YJ). The top didn’t come with any of the hardware for the front portion that attaches to the top of the hard top to the windshield. I’ve attached a picture of the top sitting on the windshield. The lip on the top of the windshield isn’t tall enough to reach the lip of the hard top to screw into. Need some ideas on modifications I can make to secure this area. Thinking of either a metal strip to connect them or something similar.

I also want to convert to power brakes. I have discs on the front and drums on the back. Do I need proportion valve with the booster/master kit? Do I also have to run a vacuum line to the new booster? If so, from where?

I see there is a screw hole or what appears to be one in the pic so there might be a part missing. To correctly mount the hard top on there should be a correct windshield angle adjustment so everything lines up. You could look up a Jeep junkyard on the net for any spare parts. This one comes to mind:https://www.jwjeep.com/

Thanks for the reply. The lip from the hard top almost lines up and touches the metal lip that runs along the top of the windshield. I did adjust the angle of the windshield so it lines up better. I also notice the top doesn’t have any corner seals so I’ve ordered those to cut down on wind noise. I found another thread where someone used a couple of spring latches riveted to the hard top and D clip under held by the visor screw. It was suggested to be a solid set up. I also read another where someone used a piano hinge running along the length of the windshield connecting them with screws.

Went with clamps instead. Worked great. Haven’t installed power brakes yet but that will be the next project.

Looks like a clean setup. For your power brake conversion, I would suggest finding a local automobile brake speciality shop for your brake work. The oem power brake booster for your CJ does not work good for anything over a 31" tire. There are lots of aftermarket boosters you can use for an oversize tire like this one:https://www.morris4x4center.com/pow...-master-cylinder-disc-drum-mbm-pbuj7486d.html. These will bolt right in, but I would suggest discussing the conversion with a brake specialist.
