For Sale: 1998 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5L 4 Cylinder 4X4 (Illinois)

I am selling my 1998 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5L 4 Cylinder 4x4 Soft Top AS IS.

It is in good running condition but needs some repairs. It has a clean title, has not been in any accidents since I’ve owned it for the last thirteen years and has served me well.

The engine has 157,439 miles, is a 4 cylinder 2.5L with five speed automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive. The tires are fairly new over sized 33” x 10.5” x 15” BF Goodrich all terrain tires mounted on premium alloy rims. The rims are in fair condition. The driver’s side front rim has brake dust on it, not rust. More recent repairs include a rebuilt transmission, new brake lines, new rear brake cylinders and rear drums, and new tires.

The waterproof vinyl coated cotton poly blend soft top is removable by way of two quick release latches. The rear windows of the soft top are tinted black within legal requirements. The back window of the soft top is missing as it was accidentally damaged last winter.

Below is a list of repairs that would need to be fixed that I am aware of:

• It needs a new exhaust system to include a new muffler and exhaust piping. It passed emissions testing late last year, however the check engine light is now activated because of the exhaust system which I verified by way of an OBC check.

• The front driver’s side brake cylinder ruptured and I replacing the front brake pads soon would be recommended.

• The front stabilizer bar requires reattachment and the mounting bolts need to be replaced.

• Rust is located in various areas including on the frame. There is an area rusted through on the rear trail arm mount on the rear passenger wheel that attaches to the frame. There is also a small area rusted through on the passenger front fender.

• The antenna needs to be reconnected for the radio to work. Otherwise the premium overhead roll bar subwoofers work great.

I’m asking $2000 but am more than willing to negotiate to give it a new purpose and a new home. The sale is “as is” condition because of the needed repairs. Preferred payment in cash, or certified check or money order with photo identification shown to relinquish title. I am located near Elgin, Illinois and would request that you pick up the vehicle. Welcome! Nice to have an honest upfront list of issues for the jeeper looking for a project to restore. Price seems competitive relative to the amount of needed repairs. Frame rust will be the biggest challenge to repair but special frame kits that require welding should be available.

 

Thanks! I wouldnt want to give anyone any surprises especially if I knew of any needed repairs. The rear trail arm/frame rust is definitely the biggest issue. This Jeep has been with me forever and Id just like to give it a good home.
