Wanting to buy high mileage Jeep

I’m looking at a 2013 rubicon with a little under 150,000 miles. Jeep has atleast 4-5k in mods.

I wanted to see if it was worth it to go for it, and what would be the max price you would pay for something of that sort. Only had 2 owners and 0 accidents, is it risky to buy a new Jeep like that with high mileage? I know it spends on how it was used but let’s say engine sounds good and transmission is smooth, how long will the value hold? How much will I lose if I put a year or 2 on it and try to resell?

2 door? 4 door? Manual? Auto? Soft top? Hard top? How much driving do you do in a year or two? Have you considered leasing a JLR for the same price, since you don’t plan on keeping the vehicle for long?

 

Welcome @Jeep2013RB ...lots of questions with little details. Posting a pic or the ad would make some headway. Generally mods don't add much unless its over the top or especially if not done right. As you do your research used JKs hold their value very well compared to ordinary vehicles. Finding a stock JK with relatively low mileage is probably the safest bet. Nothing wrong with 150K if the rest of the Jeep checks out as proper maintenance goes a long way. Take your time as plenty of Jeeps are out there.

 

@aggrex I understand. I feel the same way. I would rather get a stock with less miles, but all the ones in my area are a little overpriced. I was considering this option because it was already worked on and ready to use. I just want to know if the Jeep was maintained well, would value drop significantly over next couple years? If so, it would be better to just wait until I find a cheaper stock one

 

@DustStorm4x4 its a 4-door automatic rubicon. It has a hard top. I don’t like the idea of leasing too much I’d rather own the car. If maintained well, what’s the most you’d pay for something like that? I don’t know how much value the mods add, that’s why I’m asking.

 

Used vehicles can be a mixed blessing. Good if all things check out and well maintained but it could easily go the other way despite inspections. The concern for future value of your purchase is hard to predict as many factors can affect resale value. For example in a few years mileage could creep up to 185K, the mods could become unpopular (angry), fenders won't pass inspection, suspension wear, ETC. Take your time, plenty of JKs out there to compare. Research, compare similar JKs in your area and make a sound decision. Why be concerned for future value...enjoy the jeep.

 

Don't know where you are, but around here 2-dr Wranglers hold their value very well, assuming decent maintenance is performed and it isn't beaten too much. 4-drs, not so much. If you look in Phoenix for 2010+ Wrangler for under $20K, most all you see are 4-drs and restored salvage 2-drs.

150K is a lot of miles for 6 years. It seems like a lot could have been off-road from the way it looks. Mine had fairly high miles but didn't look like many at all were off-road and it drives like it is almost new. How does this drive on rough pavement?
