All gauges reading incorrectly.

    2006 Jeep Liberty. Okay, I did a really stupid thing. I took the instrument cluster completely apart, including removing the needles from the gauges. After reassembly and installation back in the car, the speedometer is reading 20 mph slow, the tach is reading about 3k high, the fuel gauge is reading about 1/4 tank high, and temp gauge stays at C. I know all the sending units worked perfectly beforehand. Is there a re-syncing procedure? I have not found anything on the web, or other posts

    OK this is a new one to me*..... I gotta ask WHAT WHY....

    There is a cluster BIT (cluster actuator test) we could try not sure what it would show -
    but a start.
    Try to Explain what why as I look for a copy to post.....

    Did something similar years ago as a kid taking apart a few electronics in the house. Nothing ever ran right afterwards but I learned something.

    So, I resolved it. Was a bit of a pain, but I got them back where they need to be. I took face off so the needles were exposed and plugged it in to the dash. Then I did the self test (hold in odo reset button and turn ignition to start) from there I could tell how far off they were. I would remove a needle and re-install where it should be and retested again. With about 5-10 mins per gauge, I got them lined back up. I put the panel back together and reinstalled it in the dash. Went for test drive and everything is correct. I won't be doing that again...lol

    As for the why, I was trying to install some led replacement bulbs but they were not working. I couldn't see if the bulbs were making contact because that was under the panel face and they only way to get a look was to remove the needles so I could see the contacts. BTW, the bulbs were wrong for a 2006 liberty even tho Amazon said they were correct fit.

    TIP - the correct bulbs are often listed in owners manual... spec bulb # 103 And not LED's.

    You are correct, but I could not find anyone selling 103's. Supposedly 74's were substitutes but they didn't fit either.
