Re-entry

Looking to get back into Jeeping after a long break. We had CJ7 and TJ for trips to old Tellico Trail in Murphy, NC. That was when I lived in SC and now in Louisville, KY area.

Looking for (or think it is best option at moment) a JK that may already have some mods... but still something that may need work. This will be a weekender and some trail riding. But not planning on getting back into hill / rockcrawling.

Like idea of 4 doors but not a must... not just for passengers but longer wheelbase.
Thinking 6 cylinder and automatic.
Like functionality of hardtops... but to me kills the ease of top down options. SO this is more of s struggle than maybe some of the others

 

Depending on the year JKs will have either 3.8 or 3.6L engine. Soft tops are neat for ez top removal but hard tops are better during the winter and have sections that can be removed. IMO select a relatively unmodified JK as your base to build. Get those jeep bucks ready as the mods can be fun and hard to stop lol.

You mention relatively unmodified... And I will search forum for this question as well. What about differences in models? Sport VS Rubicon etc.

 

Rubi are out of the box ready to tackle tougher terrain (locker,disconnect,T/C), cost more and retain more. Sport are fine and competent jeeps. Jeepers may choose Sport for the entry price, stick with milder terrain or plan on building a better Rubi one day with the jeep bucks when ready to be a poser or rock crawler. It's only money and it can be fun stock or modified as you will know it's built right.
