Just picked up a 1995 YJ Wrangler with the 4.0 and a manual transmission. The thing ran great on the test drive but the day after I bought it, I noticed it was hard to start a couple times and now it won't start at all. Cranks over great but doesn't fire at all.

I put new plugs, rotor, cap and a coil and that did no good. I shot gas directly into the intake and she never fired once.I am almost positive it is electrical issue somewhere. Looks like it's been beat on in the past but that wasn't an issue with me as it ran and shifted just fine. Distributor maybe?

I just had a problem with a Honda civic and the symptoms are identical.....cranks over fine but no fire and a new distributor fixed that up. Are the distributors an issue with these 4.0's?

it didn't even try to start when I poured fuel directly into the butterfly....it would have at least fired if there was any spark. I thought maybe someone else had this issue with these 4.0's

I have never had to purchase one but your local auto parts store should have something.

Autozone has remanufactured units as does Rock Auto and most local and on-line parts houses.

New ones can be painful. If you are after new you might want to check with your local dealer.

Make sure you match the OEM part number from your current one to make sure you get the right one for your engine/tranny combo.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!

I've been on the phone for hours and I'm gonna have to let a company off ebay repair it as nobody has these things for a 95 and older. I don't know why but that is the cutoff year for getting a new or remanufactured one. Apparently Autozone can still get you one but they are $300 bucks for a new one. Gonna go the $99 ebay repair route first. I'll keep you posted.

How did you find out it was your ECM?

I just bought my first jeep a 94 Wrangler, picked it up for 1500 bucks not running. Trying to breathe life back into it. I checked the two wire plug going into the ignition coil and got the 12 V constant and 11.75 V strobe. I replaced the ignition coil, wires, distributor cap, rotor and plugs and no spark. Any thoughts?

I finally had it towed to a mechanic friends shop where he diagnosed the issue. He had the equipment to find the problem otherwise I would still be throwing parts at it.

Yes, I sent mine to them and whatever they did fixed it. It's been starting and running perfectly ever since. It was only a 5 day turn around. They're the biggest one on eBay. I sent it out to Colorado Springs. I'll get the name for you
