Jeep identification

Hello all and thank you for your help in advance. I inherited this jeep when my grandfather passed. No title was found and the vin plate in the engine compartment was removed long ago. Checked with the dmv and no record of the original plate was found. (Vanity plate) It has been sitting in a connex for who knows how long. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any more pics are need please let me know and I will do what I can to provide it.

All I know so far is it's a v6 engine and I had a gentleman tell me it was a 72' to a 74' because of the rear axle??? Thank you again for any help.

 

Welcome @Michael.shaw0312 ....nice inheritance project. Too bad about the title, vin, etc as proving anything let alone ownership could be problematic. Hope something connects the dots because it will make a good trail rig with a little work.

 

Proving ownership isnt a huge deal to me at the moment. It's more year and model. Thank you for your response.

 

Looks like a 1965-1971 CJ5.
Jeep started using the Buick V6 in 1965 and they changed the CJ5 in 1972 and moved the gas tank to the back and they retired the Buick V6 as well.

 

There is a tank on the back as well as the driver's side.

 

Also the cut out in the passenger front fender lip appears to only be through 1968.

 

It very well could be an early body on a later frame.

 

Lol were kinda narrowing it down. So were looking at possibly a 65-68 and or a Frankenstein jeep. I'm kinda hoping I can take his dl# to the dmv to do a title search.
