New universal fuel pump and cut off switch, and in the midst if Restoring it.
    Hey guys,
I am restoring a 1990 Jeep Grand Wagonner that I bought from a family freind. It had been sitting around for about 6 years before I picked it up and started working on it. I am still in high school and I dont know a ton about jeeps but I'm looking to learn much more and i thought this would be a great place to help do that.
We have gotten it to crank and turn over multiple times but it's not consistent. I have played with the idea of doing a conversion kit from carburated to fuel injected. Would there be any concerns or things to watch out for when doing it, and what are some of the benefits to doing that.
    Cheers

Welcome @Grandwagonnerrestoration ....looks like a solid Wagoneer project that just needs some rust spots to address. My suggestion is to get some fresh gas, new battery and address the start issue first.

Yeahh, we drained out all the old gas. Came out looking like tang so I can only imagine what some of the other stuff looks like. Theres a new battery in it. I believe the mechanical fuel pump is out so that could very well be it, we already replaced the distributor cap and rotor, and got new spark plugs and spark plug wires, so we know we are getting spark but I think we are not getting enough fuel pressure for a consistent idle or drive. Would you replace the mechanical fuel pump, then later on do a conversion to fuel injected or would it be more worth while to do the conversion now. @aggrex

Every build plan varies somewhat but I like to reduce some variables as I'm sure there are other areas to address on that 30 year old jeep. That fuel injection conversion kit will modernize the GW and expect it to perform more reliably. You seem quite handy so perhaps replacing the fuel filter and/or mech pump might do the trick for less expense.

nice find - keep it STOCK!! just like jeep sold it. That will make it more desirable.

Your in school - task your librarian - about time they did something for you.
You want home access to "EBSCO" and the 'CARMATE' auto repair website. Also have them order (other library SYSTEM) a chilton manual for you to read.

@Awrench ok. I know the more stock it is the more collectable it is. We have the Chilton's book for the car so its been a big help. Is there anything you would recommend that would help with a more consistent idle or the overall driveability of the car, or just restoring it in general.

sitting around for years, fuel system is first place I would look.

I guesss you have done the basics fluids, new oil, filters, plugs. How about fuel filter? Externally spray carb but a disassembly and cleaning is likely due. TRY adding a can of 'seafoam' to gas = no it will not get up and run great but this MAY start dissolving some varnish.

Watch video - see if comfortable doing this Confirm your carb is same

Yes I have replace the inline filter in the engine bay and a old rusted out universal fuel pump/filter along the fuel rail. I have looked into seafoam but I haven't done it yet. I have done some spray carburetor cleaner whenever get have gotten it to idle but probablly not near as much as what will be needed. Yes I belive I would be comfortable rebuilding the carb with that kit, would that be what you would do with something like this

add the seafoam, do ignition primary secondary the BASICS with the added time see if the seafoam helps, if not carb is on the front burner so to speak...
