    Discovered a problem I apparently created when changing engines. When I turn on the headlights the windshield wipers come on. Switching to high beam turns them off. Uh-oh, any ideas?

    It has a 4.0 block bored and stroked to 4.7L with a new head equipped with Chevy valves and springs. It has been balanced and has a Comp camshaft with a 800 - 4800 RPM power range. I went with a 62 mm throttle body, competition header and Ford Mustang fuel injectors. I have not had it on a dyno, but the engine builder estimates the horsepower at 300 and torque at 325. With 35" tires that are 12" wide and a 4.88 gear it will pull the front wheels at a 10 mph punch. I will post a video or pic of that as soon as I install flex pipe in the exhaust just after the header.

    I forgot to add that it has a totally rebuilt Dana 44 rear differential with limited slip. It has an open Dana 35 on the front and I feel like it should have a Detroit locker. I have no idea why since it is a show Jeep that is very fast up to about 105 mph.

    By the way, all the modifications and additions including the suspension, lift, etc. have taken me 13 years so far! I just changed engines over the last 6 months.

    How much of the work did you do yourself? I’m looking at going the supercharger route because I could install it myself. I don’t have the ability to do stroker work but it would be my preference over a supercharger all things being equal.

    I had the long block and the head done. I could not have bored, stroked and balanced the engine. I did install everything else including the camshaft, header, intake, distributor, etc. I also replaced any aging parts such as the starter, alternator, water pump, etc. and painted whatever needed it including the fender wells. I want it to look car show right.

    For the same money you could also get a Banks Sidewinder turbo. The intercooled version adds +107 HP and +121 lb-ft torque which is more than the supercharger kits. Id guess the non-intercooled version is about equal in per and torque gains to the supercharger kits. Eventually I plan to go with Banks for my LJ.

    One thing, if you get a header have a section of flexible exhaust pipe installed just beyond the collector. Jeeps are notorious for cracking exhaust manifolds. A lot of torque and no give in for the engine twist in the exhaust. One exhaust manifold and to headers later I had it done for under $100.

    Good info to know to avoid cracking exhaust manifolds on a jeep but I'm currently dealing with a rusty broken flex pipe on a different vehicle with some PIA rusty nuts. Going for the torch method.
