Boondoc's boat build thread

So I got a small 12 foot aluminum V-hull a few years ago. It's a 1979 sea nymph. It was in pretty rough shape, so earlier this spring I decided to put some money into it and completely overhaul it. When I first got it it was an ugly green color. So I decided to sand it completely down to bare aluminum and give her a new paint job. Sorry I didnt take any before pics.

After getting the outside painted and flipped back over I started on the inside. Not such an easy task due to all of the curves, rivets, and benches I had to work around. Then I decided to put a truck bed liner on the inside
Since I use the boat for duck hunting fishing, and cruising around...having that added traction and protection inside the boat seemed like a good idea.

Now that the inside was done I was trying not to get too much more money wrapped up into it. Then I realized I needed lights for the pitch black early morning ride to the duck blind. So I bought a couple rolls of those led strip lights from Amazon and ran them underneath the top rail of the gunnels. It turned out pretty awesome. Now I can see where all the stuff is on the inside of the boat. Now that I ran those, in order to be legal at night time I had to have navigation lights. I didnt want to run them at the same time as the lights on the inside of the boat so I bought a 6 way switch panel off amazon. I ended up mounting it at the rear bench that way water and moisture wouldn't get to it so easy. Now that I got extra switches I figured I would get some more lights. I ordered some cheapo lights off amazon again. One 12" flood/spot light combo and two 4" pods. Only spent 46 bucks lol. I plan on putting the 12 inch light at the front of the boat so I can use it like a head light and the 4 inch pods will go on the rear corners to be used while throwing out the decoys. I'll post those pictures when I get them mounted and wired up if I get time after work.

Basically I'm starting this thread for my own keepsake of memory and to share some stuff with the fellow jeepin boaters out there. I'll add to the thread as I keep moving on with upgrades and modifications. Any ideas and 20/20 hindsight is always welcome!! Let me know what you guys think!!

You didn't pay extra for all those tree branches in it did ya? They free here in Jersey. .

 

Lol no I got hooked up with a sweet deal for the tree branches. Yea I figured I would give it some TLC this year since it's been good to me for the past few years. I've had people try to buy it off of me as I was putting it in the water. I keep telling them it's not for sale... yet haha

 

I didnt get to wiring any lights last night after work. Today if I get off work at a decent time I'm gonna spend some time in the garage and try to finish up the new lights. I'm ok with that because i was looking at the lights i got from Amazon and they looked like they would leak and get moisture behind the lenses. I ended up running a bead of caulk around the edges of the lenses. Hopefully that keeps the water out. So I'll let the caulk get set up for today and I'll get them mounted and shining this evening.
