How can I get more flex in the rear?

    Is there something that does for the rear what disconnecting the sway bar for the front?

    I don't have rear bump stops and the front ones stop the tire about an inch from the front

    Hey great looking JKU. I like the red. Get bigger tires that you can stuff up there. I run a full disconnect up front and leave the stock rear sway bar (a skinny little thing) to keep my jeep from leaning so much off camber when I am off camber (a safety thing). If you want more flex in the rear try going with Currie's rear antirock swaybar. still gives some stability, but more flex than stock. I don't feel it is safe to go fully disconnected in both the front and the rear. Here is their rear antirock for the JKU https://www.currieenterprises.com/CE-9900JKR

    Here is my current set-up. 4in teraflex lift. Full swaybar disconnect up front. Stock swaybar rear. Bump stops at all 4 corners 39in BFGs. I now have longer shocks (not pictured) that will give me 4 inches more droop. I had to install spring keepers top and bottom to keep them from popping out under full droop. I think I will also need limiting straps, but I'll know this weekend after wheeling it.

    Daaang 4" more!? May I ask what shocks those are?

    Man $600 is a little steep for an extra inch or two.

    Wonder if upgrading my shocks would help tuck that rear tire in.

    Sick jku btw! Are those 17s?

    yes to the 17s. Your limiting factor in the rear is the rear sway bar. Youre getting the same flex as I am, just my bigger tires are taking up the space. I just installed the new falcon shocks sport 2.1. They were about $600. They are for a 4-6" lift. I had on there shocks for a 2-4" lift. The old shocks would not extend out far enough to let the springs decompress all the way. The new ones extend out so far that the springs fell out of their buckets when I was testing the compression and extension after installation.

    Gotcha. That explains the 4" gain at full droop.

    My front seems to flex ok. I can still remove the bump stops for more articulation if needed. The metalcloak lock n load helps too.

    But every time I think the back is hella flexing, it really isn't. I want the rear to droop down like the front does.

    I want bigger tires but my jeeps not ready for that and my wallet isn't either.

    I'd like 40s but would love to have the 38.5 mud trepador if maxxis ever makes it in the US.

    I'm going to consider the rear anti rock sway bar.

    3 inch zone lift. Fox 2.0 shocks. 35 inch nitto ridge grapplers. Bushwacker flat fenders. No name steel bumpers front and back for now.
    That's is some serious droop. :eek:

    Been doin some reading and found the rear sway bar may not affect articulation as much as the front one does and therefore disconnecting or modding would have little effect on droop.

    I wonder if the only way to get that droop in the rear is with suspension such as 3 link or triangular 4 link.

    I have a lot of travel left on me rear shock when extended I just wish I knew what's keepin it from extending all the way since it may not be the sway bar.

    IIRC, the rear is already a 5 link set up. Might consider a long arm kit.

    I do I have a 6" long arm. The long arms make the front flex very nice. But I feel the rear is only flexing about half as much as it could.

    Only one way to find out. One of these days I will compare the disconnected swaybar vs the connect swaybar flex in the rear. I do know that with my new shocks that the rear axle will droop far enough down that my springs fall out of the bucket and to the ground. I have 3inches of space at the top to get them back in. When I am flexing and under full articulation the rear springs do not fall out. By the way those new falcon shocks are awesome. No violent side to side rocking on some of the rockiest trails I have ever been on. I'm almost ready for the Chile Challenge in NM next week.

    That'd be great man let us know. If I get a chance i'll do it myself and post my findings. Good info on those Falcons will consider them thanks. I hate that bouncing around feeling when crawling. See you at Caballo.

    Turns out the Falcon 3.1sports are amazing. I went on some of the rockiest trails I've ever been on and the violent rocking I had with the old shocks is gone. These Falcons are about half again as thick as other shocks with probably twice the volume which equates to softer yet better dampening shocks for an all round smoother ride. I want to say that the installation takes a little drilling in the rear because of their greater size, and it is stated in the instructions. I would like to try fox shocks one day. On another build. . .
