I got this jeep brand new in June of 2017. My wife and I were planing a trip to Colorado to go wheeling like we do every year for vacation but my old cj5 was having some issues and it was real hard to wheel with our 2 growing kids. That’s what made the decision to get a new Jeep. I found this jk at a local dealership and fell in love with the color. My wife not so much. She wanted a gobi. She was not with me when I bought the jeep lol. I had exactly two weeks from the time we purchased the jeep to when we left on vacation. So in 2 weeks I put a 4 inch rc lift and a rc dual steering stabilizer. Dual light pods on the a pillars. A high lift jack and 35 inch gladiator tires on the factory wheels with 2 inch G2 spacers. I love the look of the factory wheels and if I mess one up wheeling they are cheap to replace AA3F3FA8-82D9-45F2-AEEF-3E57B508294F.jpgThis is what she looked like the first day I brought her home. C20749F2-E563-4C5E-BAD8-15F20754D85E.jpgThis is what she looked like when we left for vacation 2 weeks later. I did color match the steering stabilizer, the springs and the shocks. It is just a sport so it had the 3.21 gears and the Dana 30 front axle. No lockers. I quickly realized it was going to need gears and lockers very soon. On the drive out there and back it wouldn’t ever shift into overdrive. When we returned I installed G2 axles and 4.88 gears in the front and rear. I put the sleeves in the Dana 30 front and an factory e locker in the rear. I also put a ranch hand front bumper on it. I shaved the fenders. Added a 20 inch light bar to the bumper, led headlights with green back lights and green rock lights. I also wrapped the grill and the cowls. 9CFB0E0B-F971-4E6F-B2D1-C45D05AD8949.jpgI quickly realized I did not like the front bumper and I listed it for sale. I put a EAG front stubby bumper on it and ended up trading that ranch hand for another mid width front bumper that I converted it into a rear bumper. It actually worked very well 4DF0B5A8-CB93-4FA3-B5C3-2EF2C5EE3D36.jpg B44FAEE6-ACE4-4148-B149-AC7A1976757A.jpgsome of the other things I have done are the third brake light is removed and I put two bullet lights in the empty lugnut holes of the spare tire. I put inner fenders in the front. E908770C-6CDE-44C7-B887-A4FFA95E9BC6.jpg . I color matched the d rings. I put flowmaster exhaust on it. I got door surrounds and put a bikini top with a rear tonneau cover. So here it is a year later and we have 2 weeks till we leave to go to Colorado again. I just installed new smittybuilt fenders. A hi lift jack mount, a poison spider bombproof rear diff cover, a smittybuilt winch, hood latches and on board air. I am waiting on the ox locker i ordered from quadratec for the front axle and rock sliders.FB1AD1ED-CDBA-4036-8693-0D112E336588.jpg 62DEFB9E-D394-4EA6-811A-077ABEF604C0.jpgEE974D37-55BA-49CA-9CDB-9B44C27B6D5D.jpg In those pix the smittybuilt fenders are not on yet. I will post those pix a little later. I am also putting another 20 inch light bar on the bumper later tonight. I think that covers everything to I have done so far. Oh I almost forgot the squatch sticker CEA9DEA1-3F24-4BCA-8DA4-4995DAD5E1DC.jpg

It's good to see that I'm not the only one who's interested in having undercarriage parts recolored or re-power coated. Congrads.

Thanks. I think it adds a lot to the the look of a Jeep for not a lot of money.

Got the new steps on today. They are built very well but they are a little to low I think. The wife likes them so I think they are going to stay. I told her that just means I can get bigger tires. I also sprayed the rockers wile I had the steps off. 0E50A9E3-654C-4C42-B37C-756E46D2F76B.jpgF7661B4F-CAAE-472A-B797-91607965BAA5.jpg E7377C36-0E21-4B53-B6F2-8E973A30238F.jpg65873360-8953-49ED-B46E-68B0EEE28750.jpg FB108EE8-E40B-4973-8D7C-391829B4224A.jpg425E362B-F872-4DFC-B81A-1FBBFCEEA8F1.jpg I installed the 20 inch light bar. I built a bracket that bolts to the fairlead. I also installed green back lights in the light bar and the fog lights. You said the side steps seem rather low, it's nothing more than an optical illusion as you've painted the lower body panels black. We may do the same as it would actually make the jeep look taller, higher up.

Yea the steps aren’t any lower than the frame of the jeep. Your right I think it’s just an illusion. It’s growing on me. It’s a lot easier for the wife and kids to get into it and they will protect the side of the jeep. The factory steps wouldn’t of held up to a tree or a rock.

I put the electric lock option on it. Adjusting that and wiring it kinda sucked. It came with a rocker switch that had a blue light. Of corse we couldn’t have that so I figured out how to wire it to a different switch. Not as easy as it sounds but I got it. It wasn’t just a simple on off switch. Then I went to put the oil in the diff and they have a hole half the size as the factory diff cover and it was right up against the steering stabilizer. It took about an hour and a half just to fill the oil. 3CA702D4-AB52-4459-96A3-113D0FD6F5BC.jpgCB17BDC9-85F7-4EF9-978B-F722DDCE011E.jpg 61A170F7-5304-4BD1-865D-7E0550334C1F.jpgI hope I have enough slack in the cable. I haven’t tested it yet but I guess we will find out. Wile I was at it I installed some interior lights and painted some more interior pieces F89AD82F-1970-4DE4-89FF-531BE5EF20C8.jpg927A4ABE-4FFB-4DA1-9FD5-409BD5F00102.jpg 26F76C94-39D9-4F54-A6C6-AB1F8CBE9245.jpg54CD1334-49B1-4215-8794-CB92B88A47C9.jpg I matched the mag light to the jeep and mounted it FE6F4E9D-FE99-4E21-9B3E-8AC7C1624355.jpgthen I installed usb plugs in the front and back seats. 148E8B22-D5A5-44DC-9EA2-ED0BF5F47401.jpg9555C31C-3ECE-4F79-937B-F99F418A6DB5.jpg

Harbor Freight has a gear oil/fluid pump for ten bucks that worked great this weekend when I changed the rear differential fluid on Honda Pilot. The gear oil/fluid pump screwed into the VTM-4 differential 1-gallon jug.

I went and bought that same tool. It didn’t fit. I will take a picture of where they put that plug.

I am looking for a set of sway bar quick disconnects. Does anyone have any suggestions? Right now I just unbolt the factory ones when I go 4wheelin.

It's a pain to unbolt the swaybar on the trail but even more a pain when it gets muddy afterwards ..but it so worth it and I still chuckle when I look at this pic....LOL

Teraflex and JKS come to mind for quick disconnects

3 inch zone lift. Fox 2.0 shocks. 35 inch nitto ridge grapplers. Bushwacker flat fenders. No name steel bumpers front and back for now.
Teraflex would probably be my first choice. Just because they make good shit. I need to get a set for my rig. I just take the time and unbolt them and zip tie them all together like you did haha. You're not the only one @Squatchy

    Edit

    That was for @aggrex lol.
