My girlfriend has a 2007 wrangler jku and has been having problems with the etc light coming on. She has tried to get it fixed but it keep coming back on. About a month ago she was on the highway and the jeep cut off. Gages all went down, and power steering stopped working lights and radio still worked. She pulled over and turned the key off and turned it back on and it drove fine. A week or so later it did it again. Also she started it once and was idling so rough it felt like the whole jeep was shaking. We replaced the gas petal and sensor on the petal because someone told me it could be the problem but it did nothing. The etc light doesnt stay on constantly. It will come on after driving for 10-15 minutes, or when you get on it. About 2 weeks ago, the check engine light came on and stayed on constantly. We checked the code and cleared it. It came up as p0404. Looked it up and it says EGR. The light didnt even stay off for a day before it came back on. Iv done some research and some people have said the etc light is from a bad throttle body and the sensor on it. So im trying to figure out if it would be smarter to replace that or the EGR valve. Any chance all the egr is causing the etc light to come on?

    Hello Connor,

    Welcome from Oklahoma.

That's a tough one. I am not sure an EGR would cause an Electronic Throttle Control issue, however I can see an ETC problem causing an EGR malfunction.

Good luck, hope someone else here can chime in with more/better ideas.

    Welcome from Missouri.
It sounds like your having egr problems so it might be a good idea to replace it or you can clean it. They do get a lot of carbon built up on them and they don’t move like they should and that can cause the light to come on. That can cause the etc light to come on because the egr let’s exhaust gas recirculate threw the engine. If it’s letting to much air threw it can cause the ecm to think there is to much air going threw the intake and the throttle body is in the wrong position when in fact it’s not and it’s confusing the ecm causing the light to come on. If that makes sense. Let us know what you find out.
