Hello everyone, I am not a car guy but I love my Jeep and love learning how to work on it as things come up. One thing that came up is my transfer case. Can't shift into 4wd low. Upon closer inspection we found the bushings were the culprit, and after replacing them, found the cable itself was also broken. Now, when I first bought my Mariah years ago, I had already predicted that stock parts may not be all that good, and planned to replace things as they go bad with premium, heavy duty stuff. So, while looking for new transfer cables, I've come across some different kits and such for shifters and transfer cases. Am I correct in thinking shifters are for your normal transmission, while transfer cases are primarily for shifting between 2 and 4wd? Is it worth the money to invest in one of these kits vs just a new cable?

I don't do a lot of off-roading right now, but I do live near a beach and do use 4wd pretty moderately. I just don't want to keep running into the problem of replacing bushings and cables over an over. I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sport with close to 115K miles on it.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Welcome! I haven't heard too many reports of t/c cable or bushing issues but if you're changing them together as a set and the current ones at 115k perhaps give the OEM set another shot. I'm trying to finding the time to upgrade my shifter and there are no cables involved with that upgrade.

Well, to clarify, the problem happened a few years ago initially around 60-70K miles, but am just now getting it fixed. It's not convenient when I remember, and I don't remember when it's convenient haha. However, that's how I knew to look at the bushings, I started seeing more posts and forums about it when people were talking about their Jeep's not going into 4wd, or common problems with the TC.

This: http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/715596--heavy-duty-jk-cable-shifter-upgrade/ is what made me think of looking into replacing more than just the cable and bushings.
