    I would just use a quality 75-90 or 90-140

That’s what I was thinking. What about synthetic ?

I believe synthetic is a waste of money on axles. Valvoline is less than $6 a Quart at advance auto. I usually run Oreilly's gear oil. I change my oil often. Usually twice a year which equals about once every 1000 miles. I'm paranoid of water getting in them, but I have yet to find any.

I agree with @OFFGRID . Its easy enough to change the fluid, so save the money and run a quality non synthetic.

Recently changed mine. And I was honestly disappointed they didn't have synthetic oil. But after reading OFFGRIDS post. Happy now they didn't have it. I used 80 -90.
