    I bought a 1986 cj7 that has a cummins 3.9 diesel
    they used a 700r4 and dana 300
The front drive shaft is so close to the transmission pan it broke front drive shaft when it was put in a bind off road.
What case could I use to give it more clearance?

The 700r4 is known for this issue. Many people run a Dana 44 out of a 74-79 grandwagoneer in the front with late 70s ford front spindles for the correct wheel bolt pattern. If you want to run the 6x5.5 bolt pattern of the Gwagoneer you can always get a 5x5.5 to 6x5.5 adapter for the rear which will also give your rear axle the same width as the front. You have to outboard you springs in the front because the differential is set further to the right. This will also get the driveshaft out more giving clearance for the 700r4. You can also switch to a th350, but you would lose overdrive. Not advisable to switch from the D300 tcase because you will still have the same issue with almost any tcase you switch too.

    Maybe a tcase clock ring?
Clock the tcase down a little more to get the driveshaft a bit further away from the pan. Would hurt ground clearance though.
I don't have any personal experience here though.

Well, I got the clocking ring and it did not help at all no better clearance.
I purchased a turbo 350 with a np205 case thinking that would move it over but the front
diff. position is too far Left.
Still working on how to get this done
Is there a front diff. that would help without going to the extreme of moving spring mounts?

Your th350 and np205 is the ideal setup. that is what i'm running on mine except i have the np208 with no issues. the cleearance is close, but no rubs.

You know. . . I wonder if when they installed the diesel engine if they had to move it more off center towards the passenger side to make it fit. This would have also relocated the tranny more passenger giving you less room for the drive shaft. You may have to upgrade your axle to a wider one if thisis this case and you want to get full flex.
