Jeep Cherokee xj w/1 tons and 40's

My buddy had to make some leaf spring bolt brackets since the fucking bolt heads snapped off and the nut was welded into the frame.

 

Oh..oh.. oh.....we got Jeeps parts in. Sweet.

Dude that sucks. Ahh...I'm sure your got this. Keep me....umm....us posted. Loll.

Sweet @acerwin. Little closer huh. What's next? Front axle and skid look staged and ready to go. .

 

Yup next everything will get added to the front axle this week. Then install new knuckles on the axle. Steering will be here shortly.

 

Acerwin...just thinking about your set up for safe working conditions as working under a vehicle always has some level of risk. I like your metal support beams. Can you provide some information? Great progress on the ultimate XJ

 

The bigger pieces are from what I had leftover from my sliders (can only buy it in 20ft) and the very front pieces are just square tubing we had laying around the shop. Just welded them to the frame and mounted them to the floor.

To get the old springs out. The bolts broke. All of them. Had to be cut out the frame and replaced with new. And basically new hangers. Went back with 1/8 and over that with 3/16


Now we can get the springs in.



Now to adjust the angle and weld the perches on.



Cleaning up the front axle (grinding).

 

@acerwin I have been looking into purchasing a plasma cutter. How do you like the Powermax 30? Have you tried others, and if so; how did you like them compared to the Powermax 30. I see great reviews for all of those that I have looked at including: Hobart, Miller, and Lincoln. I think I'm leaning towards the PM 30 because I read about its drag tip technology. What do you think?

 

It’s my buddies. I can tell you that it’s been put through hell for 4 years and still works. I’ve used it a little and works great. He used to cut bumpers out with it until he got his plasma table. If I had to buy one I’d buy the powermax 30.

 

We have the Powermax 45 in the shop and it is AWESOME. Way overkill for our normal needs.

Thanks buddy. It’s been a fun project for sure. It’s my first build I’ve ever went full into it like this. The Tacoma was a lot of bolt on things....this well it’s far from that haha.

 

I'm with you dude. The more work it takes. I love it. Wheeling is a lot of fun. But wrenchin on your Jeep. As far as I'm concerned. Is just as much fun. Its a Jeep thing. True????.

3/4” bolt fix it weld washers have been ordered for the link mounts. Figured I’d go this route for stability instead of just drilling a bigger hole for the bolt.
