While checking the vacuum lines for leaks on my '88 GW, I uncovered 9 wires that had been wrapped with duct tape by the previous owner. I repaired / replaced the damaged wires and came to this connection. Is this a factory connection? After my repairs, the positive wire on the coil gets hot when the battery is re-connected. The light switches in the cab were replaced with toggle switches at some point and now I'm wondering if the wiring harness has been the victim of resourceful electrical work as well. Not sure if what is there should be there.... I'm questioning everything.

I'm not the most familiar with the GW. Providing your GW has a coil and distributor, Is this happening when the key is turned on, Or off. I believe that You should not have power to the coil when the key is in the off position. If it is in the on position but not running it is possible that the rotor is making contact to a terminal inside the cap creating a constant draw on the battery which makes both the coil and positive wire get hot. If running the coil constantly discharges preventing excessive heat buildup, at least that is how it works on my CJ.
