Has anyone replaced tailgate hinges?

Tailgate is sagging just from use. I'm not even going to try to take the torx screws out manually, because everything I've seen says they strip immediately (probably because of the factory Loctite). I'm all set with my mini torch and impact hammer (manual). And advice from anyone who's done this already?

 

After so many years (17) those torx screws may be stuck but try some rust penetrant, some good torx bits and maybe a few might cooperate. If not the alternative would be to drill them out or use a bolt remover bit. New tail gate hinges will make the tail gate open like new again. Probably want to remove one hinge at a time unless you use some wood blocks to stabilize the tail gate with all the drilling hammering banging and cussing.

 

I'm sorry your "tailgate" is sagging. Mine too. I've been putting in extra time at the butt machine at the gym. Ahh..crap. wrong forum. My bad. . Sorry.

Replaced the tailgate hinges (about $100) and the difference was immediately amazing. I wish I could have gotten them in factory paint but the matte black looks pretty good because it matches the bumper and everything else back there. Only hitch was realizing that the hinges had to be attached to the tailgate BEFORE attaching hinges to the Jeep, which seems incredibly obvious in retrospect.

 

Only experience to share is with the JK where tailgate bolts followed body structure bolts
