I need to replace the tailgate window motor on my 1972 Wagoneer. I ordered a Cardone model 42-22 which said it fit a 1972-77 Wagoneer. It is not even close in bolt pattern and design. The motor that is in it is an American Bosch model 581 178A. I can't find this anywhere. Any ideas?

No. No other numbers. After researching I think the regulator in the Wagoneer is manual. all diagrams I can find show the electric motor mounts on the left side of the regulator. There is no place to mount the regulator on the left side. the only holes in this regulator is in the center between the 2 regulator gears. I guess this is what you get when you buy something at a mechanics auction.

I think that is what you get when you buy something which has been on the road for 44 years. lol

At least you were able to figure it out. It looks like you should be able to get a proper regulator from whatI see. IF that is all that is needed to change...IDK.

    Good luck with it.

I replaced my motor switch with one from BJ Off Road. About $85.00, high but worth it. No one else has anything similar.

I took my motor apart, cleaned out all the old grease, regreased it, put it back together. Works great. Only problem with these are the plastic gear. If you can find an old motor then swap out the plastic gear.
