Tranny heat codes

I have an 06 Jeep Wrangler sport with an automatic tranny, I started getting a hard shift between first and second, took it to a tranny shop , they pulled up codes saying tranny was overheating, they inspected it and found that tranny was not hot so they thought it was a bad computer, sent me to the dealer because it's a dealer only part, dealer called and told me tranny needs overhaul, computer is fine, $3700. Later I pick up Jeep and discover it still has hard shift between first and second, I go back to tranny shop, they put diagnostic test on and it pulls up the same overheating codes, I go back to dealer, ( dealer warrantys work) dealer says they can't find a problem and diagnostic pulled no codes, I pick it up from dealer, still have hard shift between first and second, I go out of town and have an auto repair shop just put the diagnostic tester on and same codes come up.does anyone have a similar problem with the 06 Wrangler?

 

Welcome! The dealership owns the problem now since they did the trans replacement. The dealership should warranty and cover their own work. Since you are continuing to visit independent transmission shops see if they will write up a diagnosis and document the overheating codes so that you can show the dealer. It's a bit of a mystery why the dealer cannot obtain the same codes or acknowledge the hard shifts.

 

Thank you, we did contact dealer , they claimed they found no problem, they said it pulled no codes. I am taking it back in a few days and ask them to diagnose it in front of me. Thank you for the welcome! I have heard that the 2 heat codes in the 06 Wrangler mean it's the computer 99 % of the time. Other then this, it's been awesome owning the Jeep, it's a great vehicle to tow behind my RV.
The dealer already charged me 3700 to fix the problem, they even put in a new radiator , problem still exists, it's a mystery what's going on.

Not the most knowledgeable when it comes to trannys. But I do agree with previous posts. And it is the Dealerships issue now since they did the warrantied work. I'd keep an eye on the radiator too.

 

An auxiliary trans cooler was something I wanted to suggest but decided to wait as the issue was not from any heavy-duty activity. Jkbob is correct that for an '06 the radiator is suspect if the transmission lines cycle through the radiator.

 

Enough said. Had an issue with my XJ years ago. Turned out to be the tranny cooler. As aggrex stated. Your cooling system runs off the same line. Just check it since your having a tranny issue.
