Lift kit vs. body lift

    1995 wrangler yj 2.5
    Hey, I only have a 4 banger 1995 wrangler and want a lift kit. I don't want to get too big b/c this engine needs to be able to turn the tires so I am considering a 2.5 inch lift. Is it crazy to do the suspension lift as well as a 1 inch body lift?

    Welcome! IMO build your Jeep in strategic stages. Perhaps start with a quality complete lift kit, tires to match, re-gearing to recover lost power then evaluate the need for additional lift. Just my opinion.

    when buying a kit, will I need to buy anything else? Again, only going 2.5 inches. Break lines, steering? Thanks for the info

    For 2.5" I would steer away from a body lift, a suspension lift and then a 1" body lift for that extra little clearance is fine. A 2.5" body lift to me looks funny with the extra space between the body and frame. A body lift also causes other issues such as your shifters hitting the floor before going into gear.

    Howell fuel injection, header, HEI distributor, TH350, NP208, SOA lift with YJ springs in the front & GW springs in the Rear. AMC20 with G2 1 piece chromos trussed, Dana 30 with G2 chromos and 760x ujoints and MM Stainless Hubs, Geared 4.56. Tom Woods shafts, Metal cloaks, Caged, 37" Toyo MTs.
    Many states only allow a 1 in body lift. If you want an easy. 3.5in lift for your jeep. Get Old Man Emu (OME) 2.5 in springs and get you some 5 in shackles for another 1 in lift front and rear. This will allow you to run 33x12.50s. 4:56 gears will really help the 4cyl get along. You will want to eventually install a slip yoke eliminator SYE on your Tcase to eliminate driveline vibration. installing a new SYE will require you to get a new rear driveshaft. Tom woods driveshafts $2-300.

    Just my 2 cents. Not that it's needed at this point. Lol. I agree with above posts. Originally I planned on a 2 inch lift and a 1 or 2 inch body lift. The more research I did on body lifts. I decided to stay away from them. To many issues I didn't feel were worth it. And not worth the time and effort that I could accomplish with a suspension lift. And without the unsightly gap between the body and frame.

    As aggrex more or less stated. Install your suspension lift. And go from there.
